It’s Spritz Time
PUBLISHED ON: 07.15.2022
It’s late Spring, we are in Portugal. The cafes are humming, the weather is stunning, it’s Spritz time! The European remedy to “I like to start drinking sooner, but it’s too early.” I gave a stink eye to the shade of an orange sunset libation served up in ice packed jumbo size wine glasses, with a fat orange slice, literally filling the cafe tables everywhere including ours, minus me, at least initially.
My Husband ordered the Aperol Spritz for the first time against a perfect backdrop, a seaside cafe in Portugal, a stone throw from the Atlantic Ocean. My interest was piqued. I reached over took a drink from his glass and thought immediately, “I like this because I am in sitting in a cafe in Portugal by the water, and soaking up the warm air with good friends. This drink won’t be the same when I am home.”
Fast forward several weeks and we took this drink for a test spin. The Aperol Spritz felt the same drinking it with friends on the patio or anywhere. My two cents is to use a good dry Prosecco.
Cheers!

This is an interesting cocktail. Until now, I’d not heard of Aperol.

It certainly is spritz time! It’s hot here and this spritz would is the answer to putting a tasty chill on the heat. It looks delicious!

It sounds good but I imagine everything is better when you are sitting in Portugal by the ocean.

This is such a great summer drink! Or anytime one wants a refreshing sipper. Haven’t had one of these for quite some time, and I’m really wanting one now. 🙂

Always a nice drink. And if you have too many you might forget the folks around you are speaking English!

Your “I like to start drinking sooner, but it’s too early” just cracked me up (Because I remembered I make and photograph most of my cocktails late morning or early afternoon which, of course, includes tasting. Thus that’s a common moral dilemma I have LOL) Anyway, I’ve actually never had an Aperol spritz, but I love it; that’s a perfect summer drink, light and fresh!

Aperol Spritz takes me back to our time in Venice. And yes, a dry prosecco is key 🙂

So refreshing and delicious.

..if you like bitter flavours, try Spritz with Campari. In Italy, in the old days, spritz was a much more general term for a drink often based on white white, soda water and whatever bitter one had. I like one made with white wine, tonic water and Campari or with Cynar, a bitter made with artichokes. stefano

I am so fortunate that the only really authentic Italian restaurant in Tucson is but a 5-minute walk from our home – and they serve an amazing Spritz. (Of course, having one in Venice is referred…) It is truly amazing how the slice of orange really adds a lot to the drink.
